What are your membership options?
MMSA has two classes of membership, Regular Member and QP Member (Qualified Professional).
MMSA welcomes new members who meet the qualifications, have made contributions to the mining industry, and have a proven professional background. Prospective members may apply as a Regular Member or as a Qualified Professional Member.
You are invited to consider membership in either class, dependent upon your interests and needs. See What disciplines are covered for QP Membership? (Link to the FAQ) For details about requirements for each of the seven categories offered.
If you are applying as a new Member, you can apply for both Regular and QP Membership at the same time. Fill in both parts of the new member form to apply for both levels of membership. You must be accepted as a Regular Member before the application as a QP Member is reviewed.

What Happens to an Application?
It is important to note that the application process can take several months. Upon receipt of an application, the MMSA Administrator will contact each sponsor and request corroborating information to support the application. Next, the application is reviewed by the Executive Committee and additional information is solicited from the applicant, if needed. Once the Executive Committee votes to approve the potential member, the applicants name, along with their sponsors’ names are published in our monthly or quarterly newsletter. If no objections are received by the MMSA Member body, and the applicant has rendered dues, the applicant becomes a Regular Member of MMSA.
If the applicant is also requesting QP Membership, then once Regular Membership has been granted, the application moves to the QP Committee. The QP Committee will contact the applicant for an interview to discuss experience and qualifications.

What is a Qualified Professional (QP)?
A QP is “An individual who is an engineer or geoscientist with the requisite experience in mineral exploration, mine development, operations or project assessment, including experience relevant to the subject matter of the project or report, and is a member in good standing of a recognized professional organization.”
Why Have a Qualified Professional Membership Category?
The concept of developing internationally accepted standards for the public reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves got its start in 1994 by the formation of the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO). This committee was made up of representatives of numerous mineral industry professional organizations and societies located throughout the world.
Today, nearly 80% of mining company capital is listed on the various global stock exchanges that recognize the CRIRSCO template. The purpose of the CRIRSCO template is, in part, is the timely disclosure of material information in a clear, concise and effective manner for mineral projects at all stages of development. This standard is designed to prevent investors from making investments based on fraudulent or misleading information.
The technical reports presented by companies listed on the stock exchanges which adhere to the CRIRSCO guidelines must be prepared by Qualified Professionals (QPs) with appropriate technical experience and knowledge. MMSA provides a Qualified Professional program allowing our members to prepare these reports. MMSA is a Recognized Overseas Professional Organization (ROPO) by all Provinces in Canada (NI 43-101), AusIMM in Australia (JORC Code) and SAIMM in South Africa (SAMREC Code) for the public reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves.
Providing this membership class helps MMSA to achieve its objective of the protection of investors in the minerals industry.
